Violence is a language of its own, and as Shanahan watched Reece speak it fluently, a part of him shattered, mirroring the cracks spreading across the accountant's bloodied visage. He'd known the mission would be hard, that it would demand much of her, but nothing could have prepared him for the raw, unfiltered brutality that poured from Reece's every strike.

He forgot to breathe. A single tear betrayed him, carving a warm path down his cheek.

She's losing herself in the abyss.

The emotional turmoil that bubbled to the surface was unexpected, a surge that threatened to overwhelm his trained composure. He wanted to cry out, to rush forward and pull her back from the edge upon which she teetered, but he couldn't. Not now. Not here. Not like this.

As the scene reached its grim conclusion, with Delilah executing the fatal shots, Shanahan felt a profound loss—not of life, but of innocence, of the Reece that he'd once known.

Innocence might not be the exact word for it, but there was a purity to Reece Cannon that he'd once felt, something not of this. Whatever that reality was, it was now gone.
